Parts of northern New Mexico experienced a freak snowstorm Thursday morning, June fifth.
“These pictures were taken at 7:00 AM on Thursday, June 5, 2008 in Truchas, New Mexico,” writes Kathryn Vigil on KOB.com’s YouNews page. “It was a bit of a slower commute into work this morning.”
The National Weather Service reports that showers and thunderstorms began moving into the state Thursday morning behind a cold front that saw temperatures fall 10 to 15 degrees.
The cold front is forecast to progress southeastward across the state.
Because of that cold front, morning lows in the state ranged from 35 degrees at Gallup and 43 degrees at Farmington to 81 degrees at Carlsbad.
A high wind warning is posted for the eastern and southeastern plains and southcentral mountains, where the National Weather Service says gusts of up to 60 mph are possible.
Wind advisories also are out for northeastern New Mexico and portions of southern New Mexico, and red flag fire warnings have been issued due to the strong winds and low humidity.
