LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Fire officials confirmed two people died – and a third is missing – after flash floods hit the wildfire burn scar near Las Vegas.
The chief of the Cabo Lucero Volunteer Fire Department said they first received a call around 2:40 p.m. Thursday about a vehicle floating in the flood waters.
Two women were found dead. Officials with the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said they were found in different places along the creek. One man is still missing.
According to the Cabo Lucero fire chief, the National Guard is assisting with rescue efforts for the third person.
Their names have not been released.
Rain chances are expected to continue Friday and into the weekend as flood watches are posted for the burn scar areas. More details are at kob.com/weather/
I am deeply saddened by the tragic news of two fatalities in San Miguel County due to flash flooding in the burn scar.
