LAS VEGAS, N.M. — Las Vegas Mayor Louie Trujillo declared a state of emergency for the city over contaminated water.

City officials said they have less than a 50-day supply of clean water. The problem is harmful debris from the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak burn scar has piled into the Gallinas River – the main water source for the city.

Since the water is difficult to treat, the city is now pulling from other reservoirs.
