ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Justin Armbruester is off to a fast start.

The UNM pitcher’s last two starts have been among the best in college baseball

It started with a 17 strikeout victory at Fresno State.

UNM baseball coach Ray Birmingham called that performance one of the best in Lobo history.

"Just noticed that they weren’t really hitting fastball at all, so why slow their bats down at all and throw anything else, so I think we ended up throwing 91 fastballs in that game," Armbruester said.

Armbruester’s latest victory came at Kansas State. Beating a Big 12 program was a big step forward for the Lobos.

"We strive for consistency. Obviously, we want to be as perfect as we can, but nobody is perfect, so I try to strive to be as consistent every start. I know I’m not gonna have my best every day, but I show up to the field every day, give it my best with what I got for that day," he said.

Armbruester will be on the mound this weekend against Nevada

The series opens with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
