ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Albuquerque police say a security guard has been killed while on the job at a Calvary Church on Osuna over Friday night.
Former colleagues told KOB 4 he was beloved and had a long career of serving the state and nation.
Calvary Church leaders and a former employer have confirmed Daniel Bourne was killed in the church parking lot Friday night. Now, communities throughout the state are mourning his loss.
Church leaders say he was a long-time member who was active in the church and helped by working as a security guard. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and a retired Bernalillo County Fire Department commander.
Bourne leaves behind a wife and three children.
Calvary Church says their Saturday night service will begin with a remembrance of Bourne.
In a statement on Facebook, Pastor Skip Heitzig, said in part:
“Calvary Church is grieving the loss of a beloved member of our church family, Daniel Bourne. In his retirement, he had dedicated his life to protecting our church community.”
Albuquerque police arrested 35-year-old Marc Ward in connection to Bourne’s death.
The church says they are helping APD with the investigation in any way they can.
This weekend, all Calvary Churches will have grief councilors available for all church members.
