Crews contain hourslong structure fire near UNM

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Crews were able to leave the scene of a massive fire in northeast Albuquerque that started Monday near UNM.

According to UNM PD and AFR, the structure fire started at 1801 Mesa Vista NE and was fought by at least 17 crew members at one point. The building, which used to belong to a fraternity, collapsed in on itself which caused them to fight the fire from the outside.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue was able to contain the fire and left the scene Tuesday morning. Officials say no other structures are threatened and that there are no injuries.

AFR said this is the third vacant property fire in the last three weeks and noted this is a busy time for their crews.
