BCSO investigates alleged threat to Atrisco Heritage Academy HS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says they have identified a student who sent a Snapchat message allegedly threatening students at Atrisco Heritage Academy High School.

BCSO says the message went out Wednesday. Then, several people posted on social media Thursday morning about the message.

Deputies responded and confirmed there was no active threat.

Parents were frustrated and worried because they had not heard anything from the school or the district about reports of a student threatening to bring a gun to school.

An APS spokesperson told KOB 4 that school officials were aware of the shooting threat but after looking into it, they decided the threat was not credible and there was no need to alert parents or shelter in place.

After hundreds of students were pulled out of school Thursday, the principal of Atrisco Heritage sent the following letter to parents, saying, “We will not be discussing threats that are quickly determined to be false – which almost all threats are. If you don’t hear from us, assume it is safe to go to school as usual.”

The sheriff’s office kept two school resource deputies at the school as a precaution. The Albuquerque Public Schools district also sent additional units to the school.

BCSO didn’t publicly identify the student.
