APD: Man dies after carjacking at SE Albuquerque hotel
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Homicide detectives are investigating an armed carjacking at a southeast Albuquerque hotel that happened on the Fourth of July.
Around 5 p.m. on July 4, police responded to a possible carjacking and shooting in the Luxury Inn parking lot, near Central and Louisiana.
Officers arrived and confirmed the report. Medics took the victim to the hospital.
Police identified the victim as 61-year-old Alfonso Aguilar. He died Saturday, four days after the shooting.
UPDATE (10/18/2023): Police arrested 21-year-old Juan Delarosa and charged him with allegedly murdering Aguilar. Delarosa is also accused of armed robbery, conspiracy, shooting and/or from a motor vehicle and tampering with evidence.
UPDATE (12/4/2023): Police arrested 40-year-old Lacey Cormier and 28-year-old Joseph Griego for shoplifting. They later learned each allegedly had arrest warrants for the July 4 murder.
Cormier and Griego each face charges of first-degree murder, armed robbery and shooting and or from a vehicle (resulting in death), as well as conspiracy and tampering with evidence charges.
Griego will remain in jail as his trial proceeds.
