BernCo commissioners select rep to fill vacant District 25 seat

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Bernalillo County commissioners held an important meeting Friday to appoint a new House Representative for District 25.
Rep. Christine Trujillo held that seat since 2013 and resigned July 1, 2023.
Commissioners and those who attended the meeting heard from seven candidates Friday. They also heard from 21 people during the public comment section.
Ultimately, Cristina Parajón was appointed by a majority vote from county commissioners.
During her speech, she recognized that she was the youngest candidate but still brought a lot to the table, pointing to her resume.
The Bernalillo County Board of Commissioners has chosen Cristina Parajón to fill the vacant District 25 seat in the New Mexico House of Representatives.
She was the deputy incident commander of the largest COVID isolation hotel in the state before becoming a project lead for the Gateway Center that many are familiar with in Albuquerque.
Parajón is currently the director of strategy for the New Mexico Human Services Department.
“I have been entrusted with these positions because I know how to get things done, because I bring energy, and because I bring a fresh perspective. I’ve been in local government, and I know what we can do for our city when we work together with the Legislature,” she said.
Candidates also answered a few questions before the commissioners voted.
This term for House District 25 ends December 31, 2024. After that, Parajón will have to run to keep her seat.
New Mexico House District 25 straddles central I-40, mainly in the Northeast Heights, including neighborhoods between Carlisle and Louisiana in Bernalillo County.
