APD arrests man accused of fatal stabbing outside of church

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police arrested 27-year-old Quebin Caserez Wednesday afternoon. Caserez is accused of stabbing a man to death outside of Southwest Heights Church in June.

The victim was 40-year-old Alfred Duran. Police say Caserez stabbed him 15 times.

A witness told police they saw Caserez running from the scene, carrying a knife. She took photos of the suspect that were later shared with the public through Crime Stoppers.

The next day, Duran’s girlfriend told detectives she recognized the photo of the suspect. She said the suspect had recently borrowed Duran’s bike and did not return it. She said Duran was going to confront the man about the bike the next time he saw him.

Several other witnesses also identified Caserez from the photos. One person even told detectives that they overheard Caserez tell someone he got into a fight with Duran and stabbed him.

Detectives arrested Caserez shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday. He will be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center on an open count of murder, armed robbery, and tampering with evidence.
