ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque dentist William Gardner is in jail again, charged with practicing dentistry without a license.
An investigator says Gardner was working on teeth as recently as a couple of weeks ago. He also faces a charge of resisting arrest after probation officers say they had to pin him against a cabinet to get him into handcuffs.
While Gardner’s dentistry charges work their way through the court system, he has taken to filing lawsuits without an attorney.
Gardner is suing the City of Albuquerque for violating his civil rights by citing him for code issues at a building he owns. He’s suing the special prosecutor in his case for practicing dentistry without a license, and he’s also suing his former lawyer.
Gardner is facing more than just criminal legal trouble.
In July, a former patient filed suit for medical negligence, claiming Gardner left her with an abscess the size of a large grape after a botched root canal.
Gardner’s trial for practicing without a license is set for November.
