MDC reports second inmate death this week

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An inmate died early Friday morning at UNM Hospital after being revived and transported from the Metropolitan Detention Center. This is the second inmate death in three days.
Bernalillo County officials say 39-year-old Lona Armstrong was rushed to UNMH after a medical emergency Thursday afternoon, but was pronounced dead around 1 a.m. Friday.
The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator will investigate the cause of death. This is reportedly the eighth MDC inmate death this year.
County officials are also looking into an inmate death reported Wednesday. 48-year-old Robert Michael Torivio also died following a medical emergency.
