Evacuations lifted for fully contained El Valle Fire in Taos County
TAOS COUNTY, N.M. — U.S. Forest Service officials said Wednesday the Taos County Sheriff’s Office lifted all evacuations for the El Valle Fire.
The U.S. Forest Service and multiple local fire departments responded to the El Valle Fire in the greater Peñasco area Friday.
On September 11, the fire was estimated to be 525 acres and 58% contained. A week later, the fire was fully contained.
Officials with Taos County Fire said the wildfire was in the wilderness area east of Las Trampas, near El Valle.
Forest Roads 207 and 714 remain closed to non-residents.
Officials say one outbuilding has been damaged. Smoke from the fire was first reported just before 1 p.m. Friday.
