Update, 5 p.m. Wednesday: New Mexico State Police say Carlos Hernandez has been found safe. We are working to find out more information.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police are still searching for 10-year-old Carlos Hernandez more than 24 hours after sending out an Amber Alert. Authorities believe Carlos was abducted by his mother, 39-year-old Angelique Sanchez, who does not have custody of him.

On Tuesday, New Mexico State Police said officers found the white Hyundai Sonata that Carlos and his Angelique were last seen in – but they still haven’t found either of them.

Carlos was previously reported missing to APD on April 12. Police said they didn’t issue an Amber Alert earlier because they didn’t believe the boy was in immediate danger.

However, Carlos and Angelique were spotted at the New Mexico Human Services Office off Menaul around 12:30 p.m. Monday.

As officers attempted to approach them, Angelique reportedly took off in the Sonata with Carlos inside the car. According to NMSP, Angelique rammed into a State Police patrol vehicle while fleeing the scene and was last seen driving the wrong way on Menaul.

That’s when the case was elevated to an Amber Alert.

Police said they ended up finding the Sonata in Albuquerque, but did not disclose where.
