Santa Fe police shoot suspect threatening people with a knife
The suspect has been identified as 37-year-old Jermaine Garcia, who is facing multiple charges.
SANTA FE, N.M. — Santa Fe police shot a person who was reportedly threatening people with a knife Wednesday near Cerrillos Road.
Around 2:30 pm. Wednesday, officers responded to the area of Cerrillos Road and Harrison Road regarding a man threatening people with a knife. Officers arrived on scene and engaged with him.
Police didn’t go into detail but, at some point, at least one officer fired their weapon and shot the man. They gave him aid and then paramedics took him to the hospital.
They identified the man as 37-year-old Jermaine Garcia. He faces these charges:
- Aggravated Burglary (Armed After Entering)
- Attempt to Commit a Felony Armed Robbery – 2 counts
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 5 counts
- Aggravated Assault Upon a Peace Officer with a Deadly Weapon – 3 counts
- Criminal Damage to Property (Under $1,000)
No officers were injured. Cerrillos was closed in both directions between Siler Road and Camino Carlos Rey.
New Mexico State Police is investigating this shooting.
