ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Like so many New Mexicans right now, Valerie Gabaldón has been collecting as many items as she can for evacuees and firefighters: boxes of toiletries, hygiene products, canned food, pasta and pancake mix.

“I even have a brand new griddle they can make things on,” Gabaldón said.

But, she said she needed a little help getting it all into the right hands.

“I have spent the last week or so trying to find out who I can give it to because it’s so important for me to know that the evacuees are going to get the items that I’m sending,” she said.

Since our KOB 4 crews was already on its way to iHeart Media’s supply drive, they decided to bring Gabaldón’s collection with them.

They arrived to find a whole truckload of supplies, filled by dozens of New Mexicans, who just like Gabaldón, wanted to help.

“We see the travesty and just the tragedy going on up north, and we wanted to do something, we wanted to give our listeners the avenue to be able to help,” said Ryan, a morning show host on 100.3 The Peak. “You can donate individually wrapped snacks, water is big, sunblock, socks, Gatorade, pretty much anything that’s going to replace electrolytes, and hygiene items as well, specifically female hygiene items.”

iHeart Media’s is accepting donations until 6 p.m. Friday, on the southwest corner of Jefferson and I-25.

“You don’t even have to get out of your car,” Ryan said. “We’ll come unload it for you.”

Those who cannot make it to the drive in time, but would still like to donate can do so here.

iHeart Media representatives say anything helps, and no donation is too big or too small.
