Police: 1 dead, 14 injured after SUV crashes into Savers
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Authorities say a woman is dead and 14 people were injured after an SUV crashed through the front entrance of a Savers store in Las Cruces.
Police said a Ford Explorer crashed through the glass near the self-checkout area and veered right as it passed through the store. The 69-year-old driver of the Explorer was not injured.
Investigators learned the driver accidentally pressed the accelerator, instead of the brake, as he pulled into a parking space in front of the store. This happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Paramedics took 10 people to area hospitals. One of those victims was a 67-year-old woman who succumbed to her injuries. Five other injured victims were just assessed on scene.
Of the victims, two were employees and 13 were customers.
Investigators later learned the driver of the Explorer went to a local hospital on her own accord.
