Major upgrades on the way to Farmington’s Gateway Park
FARMINGTON, N.M. — Big things are coming to Farmington.
“We also received over $1.8 million toward Gateway Park, where the museum currently sits,” said Warren Unsicker, the director of economic development for the City of Farmington.
Phase 1 of the project includes a new market pavilion and amphitheater.
“It’s going to be for the grower’s market, for other, you know, craft fairs, weddings, whatever you’d like to use it for,” Unsicker said. “Likewise, it’s going to interconnect with our trail system, you’ll see it starts up here and heads out east.”
As for the east side of the park, a letter of interest will be sent to developers to get the ball rolling on rilling in some key spots.
“To put in a restaurant or some retail that’s inducive to some of the other amenities that are around here,” Unsicker said.
There will also be river surfing.
“That’s where the river wave feature is going to go in,” Unsicker said.
Soon, people in the Four Corners will be able to learn how to surf.
Phase 1 of the project is set to be done by next year’s grower’s season.
