Testimony began Wednesday after opening statements in the trial of Alec Baldwin as he faces an involuntary manslaughter charge.

SANTA FE, N.M. — Testimony is ongoing Wednesday after opening statements in the trial of Alec Baldwin as he faces an involuntary manslaughter charge.

We heard from prosecutors and the defense. Each side laid out the foundation of their case. Now, witnesses are taking the stand, including Santa Fe Police Officer Nicholas Lefleur who went first Wednesday.

Lefleur is a witness for the state. He was one of the first officers at the scene of the deadly shooting on the “Rust” movie set near Santa Fe in October 2021.

Proceedings are live on our X and Facebook accounts and on our YouTube channel.

Baldwin is accused of involuntary manslaughter. If he’s found guilty, he could face up to 18 months in jail. During a rehearsal on the “Rust” set, authorities say he was holding the gun that fired a live bullet that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza.

A jury is seated, ready to hear those statements. There are 11 women and five men. There are also four alternates.

The latest “Rust” coverage is on this page here.
