ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Homicide detectives are investigating multiple deaths that police say happened overnight in southeast Albuquerque.

PENNSYLVANIA AND CENTRAL

The first shooting happened around 11 p.m. Sunday in the area of Pennsylvania and Central. Police say three people were found dead in a home.

APD says this appears to be a murder suicide, with a 22 year old shooting and killing his siblings.

No word on what led up to the shooting.

ORTIZ DRIVE NEAR SAN MATEO AND ZUNI

Officers were then dispatched at 4:17 a.m. to reports of a shooting at a home in the 500 block of Ortiz Drive, near San Mateo and Zuni. When they arrived, they found a person with gunshot wounds.

Police say an elderly man in a wheelchair shot someone breaking into his home.

On Monday morning, police were still investigating and had the street taped off. Officers set up a barrier near a man’s body, and KOB 4 crews saw a wheelchair and backpack in the street. 

Police say the intruder had a knife when he was breaking into the home, and that’s when the homeowner shot him. The suspect died in the road after stumbling away. 

“The homeowner of the residence was detained by police and questioned. At this point, there will not be any charged filed against him because it appears he was acting in self-defense,” said APD Spokesperson Gilbert Gallegos.
