ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own after a hit-and-run crash.

Police say Bianca Quintana was killed in a crash that happened before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

“This is a tragic loss for the Albuquerque Police Department and especially for the family and friends of Officer Bianca Quintana,” said APD Chief Harold Medina in a press release. “The entire APD family extends our most sincere condolences to Officer Quintana’s family.”

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office says Quintana was walking near Coors and Chapulin when she was hit by a car.

The car did not stay at the scene, and deputies are searching for a suspect.

BCSO issued this statement Wednesday:

“While the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is the lead investigating agency, we are maintaining close communications with the Albuquerque Police Department given the involvement of one of their officers. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased and our colleagues at APD during this difficult time.”

The investigation is still ongoing.
