Rio Rancho authorities respond to hot air balloon stuck in tree

Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue crews responded Wednesday morning to a hot air balloon stuck in a tree in the old golf course.

RIO RANCHO, N.M. — Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue crews responded Wednesday morning to a hot air balloon stuck in a tree in the old golf course.

Rio Rancho police officers responded Wednesday around 8:05 a.m. to a reported balloon crash on the old golf course. As the balloon landed, it struck a large tree in an open field. That suspended the gondola around 25 feet off the ground.

Rio Rancho fire crews responded with a ladder truck and removed the two people onboard. Medics took a woman to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The FAA and New Mexico State Police were both notified and responded to the scene.
