Police warn about uptick in Honda thefts in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Police Department is warning about an uptick in cases of specific Honda model vehicles being stolen.
According to APD, their analysis found there were 36 Honda vehicles stolen from Jan. 1-Feb. 19, 2025, including 18 Civics, 13 CR-Vs and five Accords. During the same timespan a year before, there were 11 stolen.
APD seeing a “majority” of the thefts in the Northeast and Foothills Area Commands. In particular, they noted most of the thefts are occurring at apartments along Tramway, Wyoming and Montgomery Boulevards.
“Since 2024, Hondas have been on the rise as one of the most targeted vehicles for auto theft,” APD department stated.
APD reiterated these tips to avoid auto theft:
- Always lock your car
- Park in well-lit areas, preferably in a garage if available
- Never leave valuables visible in your car
- Consider anti-theft devices
- Installing a car alarm system
- Steering wheel lock
- Options for immobilizer systems
- Etch your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on your windows to make it easier to identify your car if stolen
- Consider installing a GPS tracker to help locate your car if stolen
