ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Former UNM track star Josh Kerr made history in Portland Thursday.

He ran the fastest 1,500 meters on U.S. soil.

He clocked in at 3:31.55.

It’s the second-fastest time in the world.

With the performance, Kerr is moving closer to earning a spot on Great Britain’s Olympics team.

"It was all about staying concentrated and then pushing at certain points of the race, you know," he said. "After the 800, do another push mentally, 400 another push, 200 another push and that last 70 was a bit of a swim, but we got there."
