ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Richard Pitino, the new UNM men’s basketball coach, has hit the ground running.
There are three players from Minnesota, Pitino’s former team, that have entered the transfer portal. One is All Big-10 point guard Marcus Carr who averaged over 19 points a game. Freshman Jamal Mashburn Jr. and forward Jarvis Omersa have also entered the transfer portal.
While it’s not clear whether his former players will come to New Mexico, Pitino said he will need transfers.
"What I can tell you is we’re gonna look to add some pieces this spring for sure that can come in and make an immediate impact right away," he said. "I can’t talk about specific players, but there’ll be opportunities for kids."
