ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Crews say a home in Nob Hill collapsed around 2:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
Crews were called to the house on the 4100 block of Ridgeley Avenue NE. There were two people inside the home during the collapse who were able to safely evacuate through the back, grabbing their three animals. Thankfully, no one was injured.
According to New Mexico Gas Co., a gas leak was discovered underground that saturated the ground in the area. At least nine nearby homes were evacuated.
Officials with Albuquerque Fire Rescue say it’s not clear how long those evacuations could last. They said there is no direct evidence right now connecting the gas leak to the collapse, but similar situations have happened in other parts of the country.
According to AFR, there is no evidence of a fire or a traditional gas explosion.
New Mexico Gas Co. has already secured the leak, but they may have to start pumping gas out of the ground, depending on the severity.
AFR and NM Gas are on the 4100 block of Ridgeley Ave NE. Crews are evacuating residents from Montclaire east to Washington. NM Gas is getting readings of natural gas in the ground. Crews will continue evacuating until gas is no longer detected. Avoid the area. pic.twitter.com/VYpNMrZICx
