PNM reported that around 50,000 customers experienced power outages Thursday morning in the areas of New Mexico they serve.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — PNM reported that around 50,000 customers experienced power outages Thursday morning in the areas of New Mexico they serve.

According to PNM, more than 100 crew members are working nonstop to restore these outages. A rep for PNM advised that people should be prepared for extended outages.

Crews restored power to 15,000 customers by mid-afternoon Thursday, but they still have a lot of work to do.

PNM officials say they requested backup from other nearby utilities to help with all of the repairs, and they are preparing for another busy night. They are asking New Mexicans to bear with them.

“We do expect, though, because of the large number of individual outages and continuing bad weather, that it could be quite an extended period of time before we get every customer back online, and in some isolated instances, we want to, we want to ask customers to be prepared to be without power overnight,” said Jeff Buell, a PNM corporate communication manager.

They are also urging everyone to resist the urge to use your stove top or oven to heat your home because those produce dangerous chemicals.

There is no estimate on when they will be able to fully restore power. PNM advises you to be cautious and alert for crews who may be working on the side of the road.

If you see a downed power line, they say to stay away and call 888-DIAL-PNM. You can visit this website for information about what to do during an outage.
