Winter storm warnings still in effect in New Mexico: What to know
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Winter storm warnings are in effect in New Mexico as places are expecting as little as 1-3 inches of snow – or as much as 1-3 feet of snow.
The National Weather Service issued the winter storm warning early Wednesday morning, which will remain in effect until Friday at 11 a.m. Most of the snow will fall Thursday and Thursday night.
The storm approached from the west with good wind flows aloft. That made for some heavy snowfall northward through western San Miguel County and into parts of Taos County and the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Mountain peaks, at around 8,000-9,000 feet, could see up to 2-4 feet of snow.
How much snow is expected? It varies widely – very widely.
While Albuquerque was forecast to get an inch of snow, we have received reports of residents seeing as much as eight inches.
Santa Fe was forecast to get 10.2 inches of snow and that has lived up to the hype.
The big “winner,” if you like snow at least, is expected to be Las Vegas. Las Vegas was forecast to get 33.3 inches – nearly three feet of snow – and has received a foot of snow already. A blizzard warning is now in effect for that area.
With major snowfall comes major travel impacts as well. Click/tap the video above to see the latest full forecast with what you need to know.
