Interstate 40 reopened after hours-long closure
Police responded to two incidents that shut down Interstate 40 and caused backups in both directions in Albuquerque. All lanes have been reopened.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police responded to two incidents that shut down Interstate 40 and caused backups in both directions in Albuquerque. All lanes have been reopened.
In one case, police dealt with a man threatening to jump off an overpass at I-40 and San Mateo, and it was a similar situation at Coors and I-40.
SAN MATEO
Both directions of the freeway were closed at I-40 and San Mateo because of a man threatening to jump from an overpass. The backup was substantial, and was that way for hours.
RIO GRANDE
Westbound traffic on I-40 was completely stopped at Rio Grande, but police just reopened all the lanes. Eastbound lanes were never affected, and aside from heavier traffic heading westbound, everything is flowing smoothly.
