“So this is going to be something different, it’s going to be something exciting, but it’s going to hit those locals who love Elephants On Parade.”
Chelsea Martinez from the Albuquerque BioPark Society is talking about their latest collaboration with Bosque Brewing Co.
On Thursday, they made a social media reveal of the new “Elephant Kisses” cider.
The new brew is a pear-flavored cider and will have that famous pink color similar to the cult classic, Elephants on Parade.
This latest fundraising effort is to establish an elephant endotheliotropic herpesvirus monitoring lab at the BioPark.
The local herd was hit by the virus. Thorn died at the end of last year, and his big sister, Jazmine, died early in January.
The funds from the cider will go toward establishing a lab to monitor the virus in the herd, and allow the BioPark to help zoo officials respond to any future cases more quickly.
So if you want to parade into a Bosque location for the new cider, you can do so starting Aug. 20.
“At the taproom release party, we are going to have our elephant caretakers there, talking about the elephants, how we provide enrichment for them, additionally, we’ll be doing our Elephant Kiss art work,” said Martinez.
The artwork – made by the elephants themselves – partially inspired the name. To top it off, the release comes during Asian Elephant Awareness Month.
Both Bosque and the Biopark said they’re excited to team up again for the elephants.
Bosque said it is a limited edition brew – once it’s gone, it’s gone.
