ANGEL FIRE, N.M. — The Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire is now 13 miles from Angel Fire, and fire managers said that’s a generous estimate.
In the meantime, residents are holding their ground and preparing for the worst.
The fire has been moving closer and to make matters worse, helicopters were grounded at the Angel Fire Airport because of red flag wind gusts.
Fire managers did say they are making good progress – laying down containment lines and dozer lines, but they’re prepared for a lot of the work on the ground Friday when the wind is expected to pick up again.
The Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire is 34% contained as of Thursday evening – and has now burned 303,000 acres. To see the latest evacuation map, click here.
