CARLSBAD, N.M. – A Carlsbad couple is now charged in connection to a baby’s death. 

This all started September 2024 when investigators found the body of 1-year-old Khalanie Sue Moreno in a plastic bag on Queen Highway in Eddy County.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s office arrested Brianna Stallings, the baby’s mother, and her boyfriend, Manuel Guillen.

Stallings told police she rolled on top of the baby in her sleep and tried CPR, but the baby died. So, they decided to bury her.

Medical investigators say the baby had fentanyl in her system and broken ribs that were healing.
