The massive Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fire continues to grow. The fire now spans more than 270,000 acres and is 30% contained.
More than 1,800 firefighters are on the ground working on that containment, and trying to protect homes. The good news is that there is no red flag warning Friday, but firefighters said the conditions are right for another fire weather concern.
Fire managers said a plume-dominated fire means the winds on the fire will change multiples time during the day – they said it’s not guaranteed to happen but it’s a real possibility.
Essentially, the fire is creating its own storm system.
Eddie Garcia has an explanation of the phenomenon in the video above.
