Final teen suspect arrested for Maverik gas station murder
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Adam Sedillo, 16, was arrested by Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday. He was the final teen suspect wanted for the murder of an Albuquerque mother at a Maverik gas station in March.
Two of the suspects, Ty Gallegos, 16, and Estevan Lucero, 15, surrendered to New Mexico State Police and the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday. The other teen suspects, Diamond Salazar and Caprice Sicilia, surrendered to police last month after they were charged.
Police said the murder was a case of mistaken identity.
Salazar and Sicilia reportedly claimed they were robbed at a North Valley park. The two later met up with Gallegos, Sedillo and Lucero at the gas station. Police said Salazar told the others that the approaching SUV – with Kayla Montaño inside – was driven by the people who tried to rob her and Sicilia.
At that point, the boys fired multiple rounds at the SUV, which backed into a gas pump and fled. The boys allegedly fired 30 rounds – killing Montaño, who was in the passenger seat of the SUV.
If you would like to help Kayla Montaño’s family, a GoFundMe page has been set up.
