Heart of New Mexico: Gallup Special Olympian breaks physical boundaries

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – In this Heart of New Mexico episode, KOB 4 introduces you to a young woman who defines courage and victory. 

Shelby Peterson is a multi-sport medalist and if she’s not competing, she’s running – an activity encouraged by her mom. 

“My grandma had diabetes, my mom had diabetes, my uncles – pretty much a bunch of family members had diabetes,” said Tammy Nelson, Shelby Peterson’s mother. 

For this native family, moving forward means breaking physical boundaries and breaking spiritual boundaries.
