ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The New Mexico State Fair will pause Monday on Day 5 to honor the lives lost 22 years ago during the terrorist attacks on 9/11.
A memorial ceremony will take place at Chevron Pavilion from 10:30-11 a.m. It is one of many ceremonies taking place throughout the city and the state to commemorate the dark day.
At noon, the anticipated New Mexico Green Chile Cheeseburger Contest will take place at the Ag Building Courtyard.
Among the competitors are: Sunset Grille, former winner Oso Grill, Oak Tree Cafe, Laguna Burger, Slate Street Billiard, Electric Playhouse and others.
Last year, Sparky’s Burgers in Hatch claimed the Judges’ Choice Award. Meanwhile, Big Mike’s in Belen won the People’s Choice Award.
“We love coming to this competition. It is a great way to showcase the green chile cheeseburger phenomenon and to highlight the New Mexico tradition in each bite. We are beyond grateful to be a part of this competition year after year,” said Peko Nunn, owner and chef of Sparky’s.
Admission is just $4 for everyone on New Mexico State Fair Day 5. Ride wristbands are also discounted. Learn more by clicking here to see our full fair guide.
