ROSWELL, N.M. — As students across the state kick off the first day of school, others get to kick back for one more week.
The New Mexico Military Institute is getting ready for another year.
With a new setting, clothes, and for some, a new haircut, cadets at the New Mexico Military Institute are getting ready to start a new school year.
“We have here the opportunity for our students to excel not only academically, but in life, they will learn so many life skills here,” said Cristhina Starke, NMMI Global Enrollment and Marketing Director.
“It’s a great stepping stool,” said John William, a NMMI parent. “It’s the time management or the ability to get to build that confidence in himself to be able to realize that he can do anything as long as he sets his mind to it.”
As students are settling in, others are near the end.
“This is my fourth year, I came as a freshman, I’m a senior. So I’m about to graduate,” says Paulina Sanchez, the first lieutenant for Corps of Cadets. “I learned a lot of English. Now I am more social. Before, I couldn’t express myself in English, I could just introduce myself. Also in academics – at first, I was struggling and now I’m on the superintendent’s list.”
Sanchez recommends taking the opportunity.
