NMSP: Suspect killed in Los Lunas police shooting
LOS LUNAS, N.M. — According to New Mexico State Police, Los Lunas officers shot and killed a suspect Tuesday.
Authorities said officers responded to a domestic violence call on Vista Drive SW around 9 a.m. Tuesday.
In an update shared Wednesday, NMSP said that 42-year-old Lucas Barros was involved in an altercation with his wife. As Los Lunas officers approached the home, they observed the wife attempting to leave.
According to NMSP, Los Lunas officers were speaking with Barros outside and asked him to release a young child who was still inside the house. Barros released the child and then walked back inside the home and came back outside with a firearm, which he reportedly pointed in the direction of officers and fired.
“At least one LLPD officer discharged at least one round from their duty weapon, striking Barros,” a spokesperson said in a release.
Barros was pronounced dead on scene. No officers were injured during this incident.
