San Juan College opens new Student Health Care Center

A certain college in the Four Corners opened their brand-new health care center for students.

SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. – Student access to health care is not always accessible, especially in the rural parts of our state.

Now, a certain college in the Four Corners opened their brand-new health care center for students.

“We will be housing both our health services and counseling services in one convenient spot for all of our San Juan College students,” said Charisse Buchanan, a San Juan College Health Center director & nurse practitioner.

Buchanan says the new $2.2 million facility is vital to the Four Corners area.

“As we are a rural, remote institution, we understand the unique challenges faced by our students, and this clinic will offer accessible, high-quality care to support both physical and mental health,” said Buchanan.

Providing free service for SJC students and serving as a resource for the Four Corners.

“Whether they have health insurance or not, they can come over and be seen in the clinic and not have to pay anything out of pocket,” Buchanan said. “We are here for them, and if they need anything in terms of their physical or mental health, that they come and see us and feel at ease at the Student Health Center.”

Now that the facility is opening, Buchanan wants students to know they’re open and ready to serve them.
