Crews improve containment of Blue Front Fire near Ruidoso

RUIDOSO, N.M. — Crews are improving containment of the 323-acre Blue Front Fire that has prompted “Ready” evacuation status for some nearby residents.

Residents in the Bonito Lake area should get “Ready” to evacuate, with guidance coming from the Lincoln County Office of Emergency Services. Reps say this is a time for preparation and precautionary movement for people with special needs and livestock. Public safety officials will issue additional emergency alerts, as needed. According to the U.S. Forest Service, the Blue Front Fire was detected Monday, Oct 28. A week later, it is at 323 acres, which it has been since Friday morning, but is now 52% contained. The fire is burning around four miles west of Alto and nine miles northwest of Ruidoso, near the Blue 2 and South Fork burn scars. The fuels for the fire are grass and dead/down fuels.

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque transmitted a fire warning Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 11:19 a.m.

Crews are working on the ground and in the air to fully suppress the fire. The Type 3 organization transferred command to a Type 4 organization Monday at 8 a.m.
