ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Video obtained by KOB 4 shows the deplorable living conditions of an Albuquerque home where investigators said a teenager was abused.
The video shows different perspectives of multiple Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies who arrived at the home back in early May. They were investigating the death of 16-year-old Maria Angelica Espinoza. The suspect in this case who has been charged is her mother, Doraelia Loera Espinoza.
Part of the video shows deputies going through each room of the home.
Hours before deputies were allowed to enter the home, Doraelia Espinoza and her children waited outside. The video then shows Espinoza being detained. She was later charged with reckless child abuse, resulting in death.
Court documents say this all started when Espinoza took her daughter to the hospital saying she wasn’t feeling well. When doctors examined Maria they said she had died. Her body was decomposing. They also say they found maggots on parts of the body – leading them to believe Maria was dead days before she was brought to the hospital.
KOB 4 reached out to CYFD who was at the scene when Espinoza was arrested. A spokesperson says the department is investigating this case. As for the other children of Espinoza – they can’t say who has custody of them, but says they are safe at this time.
