ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A woman accused of drunkenly hitting and killing a bicyclist last year learned her fate Thursday.
Mollie Duran will serve nine years behind bars for two counts of leaving the scene of an accident. During the sentencing hearing, the wife of the victim, Joe Gamez, shared what life has been like for her family since the deadly crash.
“For me, I was off work for several months,” Jeanine Gamez said. “I was unable to sleep and suffered from exhaustion. I struggled and continued to struggle as I navigate this new normal without the love of my life.”
Judge Emeterio Rudolfo says Duran will also be awarded good time under her sentence.
