Study: 2024 Balloon Fiesta had $216.3M economic impact
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Officials with the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta shared the results of a third-party economic impact study of last year’s event.
The study found last year’s Balloon Fiesta generated an estimated economic impact of $216.33 million. The event drew 838,337 guest visits, including 712,500 guest visits from outside of the Albuquerque area. One-third of the out-of-state visitors were from Arizona, California, Colorado and Texas.
The study found direct spending on retail, food and drinks, overnight lodging, car rentals and gas for the event generated $15.02 million in tax revenues:
- State of New Mexico: $7.13 million
- City of Albuquerque: $6.23 million
- Bernalillo County: $1.67 million
The study also there was an estimated $20.98 million spent at local restaurants and bars and an estimated $45.48 million in local lodging revenue generated. The stays generated $2.73 million for the state’s lodgers’ tax and hospitality fees for the Albuquerque area.
