BCSO detectives seek public’s help in solving 2023 murder
BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — Detectives with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office are turning to the public for help in solving a 2023 murder.
Investigators say someone kidnapped 24-year-old John Gabaldon III at a gas station in northwest Albuquerque. Days later, they found his body on the Pajarito Mesa.
Surveillance video from the gas station shows two vehicles – a van and a car – drive through the parking lot looking for someone. Witnesses say they saw a man get pulled into a van around the same time the video shows the vehicles there.
Detectives say Gabaldon was targeted, likely over drugs.
“His phone records and Snapchats, things like that, do support that. His location history and then they go off. Most likely his phone was taken and turned off and he ends up out on the Pajarito Mesa,” said Cameron Carroll, a BCSO deputy.
Detectives believe the two vehicles are a newer model van, possibly a Toyota, and a silver Volkswagen sedan. You can submit tips through Crime Stoppers or contact Cameron Carroll, the lead detective on the case, at ccarroll@bernco.gov.
