City of Farmington calls for sculpture artists to submit work

The City of Farmington is calling on Four Corners sculpture artists to submit their work for the 2025 Art in the Heart downtown sculpture exhibit.

FARMINGTON, N.M. — A New Mexico city is wanting you to put more art in the heart of its downtown – and they’ll pay you for it.

The City of Farmington is calling on Four Corners sculpture artists to submit their work for the 2025 Art in the Heart downtown sculpture exhibit.

“We just extended our application deadline to Feb. 7, just to allow people a little more time and account for the holiday break,” said Karen Lupton, the city’s downtown coordinator.

The city will choose 15 sculptures to display throughout the downtown area. Each artist will also receive $1,000 for their work.

“It’s a great opportunity to promote art in our region. It is open to the four states in the Four Corners,” Lupton said.

Artists get exposure and residents get something cool to look at.

“It just brings another element to the downtown area for people to enjoy,” Lupton said. “We sit at the intersections of so many great art traditions here. It is very exciting to bring it down into the downtown area and let people see it.”

This is the third year the city has called for artists. It’s a part of the downtown Complete Streets Project.

“Part of the intent was to have an environment that would support outdoor sculpture,” Lupton said.

Each artist can submit up to three sculptures. They just need to share photos or a video of their piece.
