Eddie Garcia: Late winter storm will move into New Mexico

A cold, wintry mix of weather will move into New Mexico this weekend, bringing rain and even some snow.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Strong to damaging winds continue through the afternoon across New Mexico, with widespread areas of low visibility due to blowing dust. Any fire that is ignited has high probability to spread rapidly, especially across central and eastern New Mexico.

Light rain and snow showers will develop in western and northern New Mexico Thursday and Friday before expanding eastward and increasing Friday night and early Saturday. Snow accumulations of 4 to 8 inches along the northeast highlands with 10 to 18 inches in the northern mountains will create wintry travel conditions.

Dry and mostly tranquil weather will prevail Sunday and Monday, but another windy day is forecast on Tuesday of next week with more dry and critical fire weather in central and eastern New Mexico.

Chief meteorologist Eddie Garcia has your full forecast in the video above.
