ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A judge sentenced a former New Mexico State Police officer to seven years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.
Sammy Clouthier will spend 85 months in federal prison. Court documents show the 45-year-old Carlsbad man knowingly had child pornography in his possession, between late-December 2023 and March 2024. At that time, he was a sergeant with NMSP.
The FBI in Albuquerque and the office of the U.S. Attorney in New Mexico announced the sentencing Tuesday. As a part of his sentence, Clouthier will have to pay back $52,000 in restitution to the victims and spend seven years in federal prison. Once he gets out of prison, he will have five years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.
