Heart of New Mexico: Lyft karaoke driver shares smiles and music in Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Everyone needs a pick-me-up every now and again, but one driver in the Duke City has taken that to a whole new level.
Ryan Laughlin has the story behind a very unique ride-share driver in this Heart of New Mexico episode.

On any given Friday or Saturday night, if you order a Lyft, there is a chance it might be a bedazzled white Hyundai with eyelash decals, and Goofy waving from the rear window. Stephanie Lucero drives this unique experience.
“It’s a party! A lot of the people see me as the grandma,” said Lucero.
So unique, some of her previous passengers even seek her out.
“One of my previous customers asked me if I could be in the area of Dirty Bourbon at two,” said Lucero.
It’s all because of what happens after the doors close.
“They can sing, and they just have a good time,” Lucero said.
It’s a surprise car karaoke! She says participation is pretty good but “it depends on how intoxicated people are.”
And the guys are typically tougher sells than the ladies.
“There have been some men that said ‘no.’ But then I put their song on there and I hear them singing with it anyway, so then I hand them the mic, and they just go along the rest of the way,” said Lucero.
Lucero is from the North Valley and is retired. She admits she is not musically gifted.
“I always knew I couldn’t carry a tune, but it’s fun!” she said.
The idea started four years – and 3,000 passengers – ago with seasonal tunes. But then it grew into an all-year show.
