Judge to sentence man for beating death of father

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A judge will sentence a man who pleaded guilty to beating and killing his father in September 2023 at a home they shared in Albuquerque.
Albuquerque Police arrested Clayton Garcia and charged him with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence. It came two days after APD officers arrived at the home on Madeira, near Lomas and San Mateo, and saw Garcia in the driveway spraying his feet with a water hose.
Garcia later told detectives that his father was upset with him being loud when he returned from a party. As he tried to leave in a vehicle his father usually drives, his father confronted him, broke the car window and tried to pull him out.
Garcia said he started kicking his father, which led to his father’s death.
Garcia pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in October. He faces up to 18 years behind bars at sentencing, set for Tuesday at 1:45 p.m.
