New facility will bring big changes to Bloomfield area

A partnership between B8D LLC and the City of Bloomfield will bring jobs, a new park and reservoir to the area.

BLOOMFIELD, N.M. — This is the current view driving along US Highway 550 between Bloomfield and Aztec, but it will look a little different in the next 18 months.

It’s pedal to the metal for the company B8D LLC as they begin to build their new sand-processing facility.

“If you look at the potential for activity from an oil and gas standpoint, there is a there is a very strong market potential in this region,” said Mark Curry, chief operating officer of B8D. “And this is something that’s never really been done around the northwest part of New Mexico for the San Juan basin, and we found an opportunity, and we’re able to put the different pieces it takes to make this processing facility work together.”

B8D has promised to bring in around 30 jobs, up-keep the area, and maintain the roads used.

“Everything we’re trying to do is we’re trying to hire local and make sure that we’re giving back to the community,” Curry said. “We want to do the right thing. We know this is going to be very good for the city. This is going to be very good for this region.”

After outbidding the City of Bloomfield for the full 157 acres of space, the company is giving about 40 acres to the city for a reservoir just north of this property.

“Currently we only have 30 days of water storage in this lake, (and) this reservoir will increase that by five,” Bloomfield city manager George Duncan said.

B8D will move the dirt for the city. Once plans are final it will take two-to-four years until folks can take a dip or visit the park across the way.

“This will be a huge event and endeavor for us,” Duncan said. “It’ll also supply some recreational needs for us, too. We’ll open it up to paddle boards, non-motorized watercraft, swimming, and things such as that.”

The B8D LLC and the City of Bloomfield said they are excited about the partnership.
